Financial Literacy Month brings awareness to resources for students

Date

The Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) joins other state agencies, financial institutions, and national organizations during the month of April to celebrate the importance of financial literacy. Promoting smart financial habits, including limiting borrowing during college, has been a focus of the department for many years. The department highlights financial literacy in publications, on social media and during presentations.

A new pilot program launched during the 2018-19 academic year helps Missouri colleges start Peer Counseling programs, where students help their peers learn tools to succeed in three main categories – academic, financial and personal success. The department will host a Keys to Student Success Summit in April to support high school and college professionals as they work directly with students to help them succeed.

“Developing good financial habits at any age is important, but especially during high school and into college when so many important financial decisions must be made,” said Zora Mulligan, commissioner of higher education.

MDHE joins the Missouri Treasurer’s Office, the Jump$tart Coalition, and many others by promoting and sharing information about financial literacy through the month of April.

Celebrate Financial Literacy Month by finding tips and resources on the Journey to College and Missouri Department of Higher Education social media pages.
