Missouri has joined the U.S. Census Bureau’s Post-Secondary Employment Outcomes (PSEO), an experimental data product, which provides data on employment and wages for degree and certificate programs at participating institutions.
Prior to today’s release, data were available for 11 states and systems. Users can now also query results for Missouri’s 27 public institutions and campuses.
The Missouri Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development (MDHEWD) has been able to publish wage and employment data for graduates who stay in Missouri, but the PSEO uses the Census Bureau’s Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics (LEHD) data to follow graduates to 46 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
“Our department is always looking for ways to better understand the employment outcomes of Missouri’s college graduates,” said Veronica Gielazauskas, assistant commissioner for performance and strategy. “The Census Bureau’s data gives us a more complete picture of how Missouri’s higher education system is changing lives and how it can be improved moving forward.”
Users can visit the PSEO Explorer tool or download summary data to build their own visualizations.
PSEO data provide an important look at employment outcomes of graduates, while also making the data accessible to the broader public and prospective students and their families. The data will also help users better understand migration by showing users where graduates of institutions and programs move after graduation outside Missouri, as well as detailing the industries they work in.
The Census Bureau conducts the PSEO in cooperation with states and higher education institutional systems to examine college degree attainment and graduate earnings.
Missouri-only results are still available for public institutions on MDHEWD’s MoSCORES website, either by searching individual programs or visiting Outcome Reports. MoSCORES is also a comprehensive inventory of education and training programs which includes private and proprietary institutions and training providers, credit and non-credit programs, tuition and fees, program requirements, and training locations.
