Department of Higher Education offering text message reminders for students

MDHE partners with Mapping Your Future to provide a text messaging service

The Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) is one of five state departments across the country that sponsors Mapping Your Future, a nonprofit organization that provides financial aid counseling and resources to students, families, and schools. As a sponsor, MDHE is now offering students a text messaging service through Mapping Your Future.

Two different text message tracks are available, depending on student status.

“High school seniors should subscribe to the Journey to College messages,” said Julie Meyer, MDHE Student Access and Success program director. “These messages are filled with reminders like planning a campus tour, applying for scholarships, and tips for finding the right college fit.”

Another text message track is available for students already attending college. These “success” messages focus on utilizing campus resources including academic tutors, faculty advisors, and counselors. Students are also encouraged to keep track of their GPA and to manage their finances.

“The Missouri Department of Higher Education has a long history of providing resources and assistance to students to help them plan and pay for college,” said Cathy Mueller, Mapping Your Future Executive Director. “Offering this text messaging service is another great way to connect with students and provide electronic nudges in helpful ways.”

Text messages will be sent out 1-2 times a month and standard messaging rates will apply.

To sign up for the Journey to College messages, high school seniors should text #MOJ2C to 41411.

To sign up for the Success messages, college students should text #MOSuccess to 41411.
