$32,000 in scholarships to be awarded to students during STEM Signing Day

A total of $32,000 in scholarships will be awarded and dozens of high school students from across Missouri will be recognized on STEM Signing Day as they commit to studying science, technology, engineering, or math in college this fall.

The Missouri Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development (MDHEWD) and the Missouri Chamber of Commerce will honor 32 students as they celebrate earning a $1,000 Missouri STEM Signing Day Scholarship.

Commissioner of Higher Education Dr. Ben Boggs will speak at the event, which will take place from noon-1:30 p.m. on Friday at the St. Louis Science Center. The event is free and open to the public.

“These students deserve to be honored and provided the opportunity to commemorate the achievement of earning a STEM Signing Day Scholarship,” Boggs said. “I’m proud that MDHEWD’s partnership with the Missouri Chamber will help Missourians pursue a career in a field they are passionate about.”

Students submitted applications on MyScholarship Central in March, and finalists provided a brief video explaining what inspires them to pursue a STEM career pathway.

Representatives from the Missouri Chamber, the Boeing Company, Orscheln Industries, and other corporate sponsors determined scholarship winners this month, based on the student’s passion for a STEM career pathway.

The Missouri Chamber Foundation’s Missouri Mathematics and Science Coalition launched Missouri STEM Signing Day in 2019 to raise awareness of STEM pathways for students beyond high school.
