Dudley McCarter has been reappointed to the Coordinating Board for Higher Education (CBHE) for a six-year term following a Senate confirmation hearing earlier today. McCarter was first appointed to the CBHE in 2019 and Governor Mike Kehoe announced McCarter’s reappointment last month.
“I appreciate Governor Kehoe’s support and confidence in my ability to continue serving the State of Missouri in this role,” McCarter Said. “It’s an honor to serve on a board with members who are dedicated to opening pathways for all Missourians to get the training and education they need to flourish.”
McCarter, of St. Louis, is a principal of Behr, McCarter, Neely & Gabris, P.C., specializing in civil and construction litigation. A former president of The Missouri Bar and the St. Louis County Bar Association, he has received several prestigious awards for his quality of work, leadership, and integrity, including the Spurgeon Smithson Award, the Purcell Professionalism Award, and Missouri Lawyers Media's ICON award.
McCarter served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1972 to 1980, earning the rank of captain before being honorably discharged. He received a bachelor’s degree from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri School of Law. He also previously served as president of the Mizzou Alumni Association, a board member of the Children’s Trust Fund of Missouri, and the Parkway School District School Board.
The CBHE oversees the Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development, which serves as the administrative arm of the board and is led by the commissioner of higher education. There are nine CBHE members, one from each of Missouri’s eight congressional districts and one selected at large.
