Media Advisory: MDHEWD hosts Bridges to Success Equity Webinar Series during Equity Week, October 26-30

(Jefferson City, MO)— The Missouri Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development is kicking off equity week on Monday, Oct. 26. This annual event was reorganized from a one-day summit to a five-day webinar series due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Missouri’s top educators and advocates will host webinars, sharing strategies on how to make education accessible and equitable for all Missourians. Monday’s kickoff webinar will feature opening remarks from Governor Mike Parson and Commissioner Zora Mulligan.

Monday, Oct. 26, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"2020 Equity in Missouri Higher Education Report on Student Success" presented by Erik Anderson, Director of Innovation and Performance, MDHEWD, and Sam Bezjak, Research Analyst, MDHEWD.

Tuesday, Oct. 27, noon to 1 p.m.

"A Student's Story" presented by Kiona Sinks, Community Advocate, Elevate Consulting.

Wednesday, Oct. 28, noon to 1 p.m.

"The Role of Education in Civil Rights Enforcement: Civilian Oversight in the Aftermath of Michael Brown, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd" presented by Kimberly Taylor-Riley, Commissioner, Civilian Oversight Board for the City of St. Louis.

Thursday, Oct. 29, noon to 1 p.m.

"MOCAN: Here for You, Here for Students" presented by Francine Pratt, Executive Director, Missouri College Access Network, and Keri Gilbert, Senior Associate Director, Missouri College Access Network.

Friday, Oct. 30, noon to 1 p.m.

"The Pipeline to Equity" presented by Ayanna Shivers, Ph.D., Assistant Director of Academic Support/Student Teaching and Partnership Coordinator, Lincoln University.
