Data in the Missouri Jobs Report is produced in partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. Both the timing and availability of the data included in the Missouri Jobs Report was impacted by the lapse in federal appropriations and subsequent federal government shutdown.

For nonfarm payroll employment (Current Employment Statistics), October and November 2025 data are published for the first time in this report. Labor force and unemployment (Local Area Unemployment Statistics) data for October could not be collected retroactively and is not published in this report. Where possible, November 2025 labor force and unemployment data is compared to September, on a seasonally adjusted basis. Additional information about the impact to the data and publication dates can be found in the national Employment Situation Summary for November and on the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ revised news release dates page.

HIGHLIGHTS

Missouri nonfarm payroll employment increased by 5,500 jobs in November 2025 from October 2025, and the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased by one-tenth of a percentage point from September 2025. Private industry employment increased by 4,100 jobs and government employment increased by 1,400 jobs. Over the year, there was an increase of 59,700 jobs from November 2024 to November 2025, and the unemployment rate increased by four-tenths of a percentage point, from 3.6 percent in November 2024 to 4 percent in November 2025.

EMPLOYMENT  

Missouri's nonfarm payroll employment was 3,054,300 in November 2025, up by 5,500 from the revised October 2025 figure. The October 2025 nonfarm payroll employment was 3,048,800.

Goods-producing industries increased by 4,400 jobs over the month, with mining, logging, and construction gaining 3,100 jobs and manufacturing gaining 1,300 jobs. Private service-providing industries declined by 300 jobs between October and November 2025. Employment in private service-providing industries decreased in leisure and hospitality (-4,000 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (-700 jobs); and information (-100 jobs). Employment increased in professional and business services (2,400 jobs), financial activities (800 jobs), other services (700 jobs), and private education and health services (600 jobs). Total government employment increased by 1,400 jobs over the month, with an increase in local government (1,800 jobs) and a decrease in state government (-400 jobs). Federal government employment was unchanged.

Over the year, total payroll employment increased by 59,700 jobs from November 2024 to November 2025. Employment gains were in leisure and hospitality (13,800 jobs); private education and health services (12,400 jobs); mining, logging, and construction (6,300 jobs); professional and business services (2,300 jobs); financial activities (2,200 jobs); and other services (1,700 jobs). Employment decreased in manufacturing (-2,700 jobs); information (-2,400 jobs); and trade, transportation, and utilities (-1,000 jobs). Government employment increased by 27,100 jobs over the year, with increases in local (24,500 jobs) and state government (7,700 jobs) and a decline in federal government (-5,100 jobs).

UNEMPLOYMENT

Missouri's smoothed seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased by one tenth of a percentage point in November 2025, declining to 4 percent from the revised September 2025 rate of 4.1 percent. The November 2025 rate was four-tenths of a percentage point higher than the November 2024 rate. The estimated number of unemployed Missourians was 129,139 in November 2025, down by 2,669 from September's 131,808.

The state's not-seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 3.5 percent in November 2025. A year ago, the not-seasonally-adjusted rate was 3.3 percent. The corresponding not-seasonally-adjusted national rate for November 2025 was 4.3 percent.

Missouri's labor force participation rate was 63.9 percent in November 2025, 1.4 percent higher than the national rate of 62.5 percent. Missouri's employment-population ratio was 61.3 percent in November 2025, 1.7 percentage points higher than the national rate of 59.6 percent. Missouri's unemployment rate was 4 percent in November 2025, six-tenths of a percentage point lower than the national rate of 4.6 percent. Missouri's unemployment rate has been at or below the national rate for more than 10 years.
